Interview with Aril at Tuesday 20th of March 2018
Berk Arıl
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
A: I started in my childhood to change things. Especially when I started to think more about things that bother me in a jar and I try to fix them, I think my designer identity has begun to emerge.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
A: I decided to create a design field of my own in 2013. What is important here is not to be a big or small place, but to be a place where I feel much more comfortable in the design process. Besides, I decided to establish a ceramic workshop. To be able to produce the transformed state of my designs.

FS: What is "design" for you?
A: When you look at a product, it's the additional value you can afford. Among the starting and ending points is the simplest line drawing you can imagine, the most creative you can think of.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
A: Interior design and industrial design.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
A: My first professional design, Oblique. I realized that I had to deal with design work more seriously.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
A: Bathroom equipment.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
A: Materials with plastics that I can shape by hand. I am delighted to be in your business in the process of production and design. Technology is the design programs I use in the design process.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
A: I feel more creative when I am alone in crowded environments.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
A: When I look at the product from the user's point of view I think what they expect from the product and focus on this point.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
A: Excitement, happiness, desire.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
A: I am extremely peaceful and I feel the happiness of success.

FS: What makes a design successful?
A: By solving the issue in the simplest way and solving it without any important details, it is a success.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
A: I look at how close the product is to designing. It is also important how simple, functional and aesthetic it is when performing this function.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
A: Convenience, innovation, and sustainable energy are all considered at the optimum level.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
A: I believe that in the future there will be more gatherings around the virtual reality. I think that the product to the users and the producers can only be presented as a final product in the design phase.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
A: My last presentation was in TUYAP in 2016. I want to do a work in Bodrum in the summer of 2017.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
A: The closest answer to this is "human" for me. I feed from the crowd. I am more creative when I am alone in the crowd.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
A: Design style is actually a combination of stylish, simple and functional foundations.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
A: I live in Turkey. Turkey is a very rich cultural heritage, a country that houses highly skilled people on design. Besides this, I believe that tarsim cultures did not develop at that level. It certainly influences my cultural heritage design ideas where I live.

FS: How do you work with companies?
A: We usually come together on special projects and ideas that they want to develop. We talk about their desires and expectations, and we set our course.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
A: Often the previous work of the designer is very clear in this regard. Given the designer's work, it is possible to capture the necessary details about the subject and the approach to design.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
A: I think I need to be extremely concentrated in this process. What should I feel as someone who uses the product and how it should affect me. As a result of these thoughts I start to work on the product.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
A: Armchair, cupboard, floor covering, bathroom equipment, work area equipment.

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
A: It depends very much on how the weather is. It starts early and finish late on sunny days. In closed weather, it usually passes through indoor environments.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
A: I can say that they have to live their individual designing processes beyond the time they are in the training process.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
A: Being a designer is very special, one that is subjective. Working with people who value this work is extremely important both in terms of work that has been done and in terms of your individual development.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
A: It depends on the conditions of the time we live. In this period of ecological problems, I guess there is no need to look for a more important golden rule.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
A: The ability to transfer the details of your designs to people.

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
A: The design programs I use in the computer environment are of course very important. Besides that, it is important to me that I try to be creative in paper and pencil.

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
A: I spend a lot of time in the process of getting better. I have to constantly warn myself that I have to pass on to the next stage.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
A: This is really very variable. Subject to your experience may vary. I can definitely say that if you want to do something good it can certainly take a long time.

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
A: How creative can we be in the company line?

A: My first business experience I have personally done is now.
