| DESIGN NAME: Lishin Elementary School Library PRIMARY FUNCTION: Library INSPIRATION: It's a chance to change the reading space in school of Taiwan, we decided to create a library without colorful images and icons. So, we tried to find the plywood instead of veneer. Wood frame book wall curves onto the ceiling, it looks like a the space is under a tree. Then, that’s what we hope, the students reading under trees, the pebble shelves are on the knowledge river, guide the students into the book world! UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: How the library fill into the space is a challenge for the school reading team(consisted of teachers). So, we tried to propose a separated space concept for school. First, to make sure the entry space ( collaborative classroom corridor) become a charming reading area welcoming students, so we use the wood framed shelves to create a book wall and pebble. Second, to connect the three classrooms with different functions. Third, to open the original teacher office into a reading corner. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The library serves the students in school mainly. The library managed by the Compassion mothers, the students enjoy the library, because they feel free in the space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2017 in Taichung and finished in Feburary 2018 in Taichung FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This project was consisted of arouca plywood frame, form the wall to the ceiling. It's not easy to shape the form of pebble rock shelves. We use the CNC cutting the plywood, and shipped to the library to set up. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The library is consisted of three collaborative classrooms, it,s about 30m*15m=450m2. TAGS: Taiwan school library RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Before we designed the library, we stayed at school for a long time to observe the students in the library, the we collected the reading behaviors to make the decisions of design! CHALLENGE: To design a school library in Taiwan, the most difficult challenge is to persuasive teachers. Taiwan's teachers like to see colors in the public space for children, so we have to overcome the comments during the design and after completed. NAME: Lishin elementary school PROFILE: Lishin elementary school is a public school in Taichung,Taiwan, over 1ooo students and 100 teachers and officers. The school was established after 921 chichi earthquake, Taiwan's new campus evolution was going on, so many co-space classroom were carried on! But, it's good for euro or USA, but not Taiwan. So the classrooms transformed into public space in the campus. |
