| DESIGN NAME: Needle Workshop PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Design INSPIRATION: The inspiration of the interior design is from the needle for the clothes. As needle is very common tool for the fashion designers, so interior designer used it as an interior design element. Colour and shape of the needle were further developed and applied to the bar counter design, display systems etc. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is a demonstration unit for the property. Designer proposed a fashion designer's workshop which includes a display area, gallery, designer's workshop, manager room, meeting area, bar and washroom within the limited space and budget. As the display clothes and accessories are the focus of the interiors, therefore basic materials like concrete wall finish, stianless steel, timber flooring etc were applied to highlight the display items. Modern and elegant atmosphere were designed to upgrade the value of property. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project is a demonstration unit for the property. Designer was required to highlight the character of the property. As the space has only 9m depth, 4m width, 5m height, so layout is very important to define differnt functions and make use of the space. Open plan and void were proposed in order to have better interaction of the workshop, they also help staffs here to communicate and work more effectively. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: concrete finish, timber flooring, stainless steel gold finish, black metal mesh are the main materials applied. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 4m width, 9m length, 5m height TAGS: demonstration unit, showflat, fashiondesigner, workshop, ChongQing, China, MartinChow, HotKoncepts RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As it is a demonstration unit, therefore the designer needed to realize the local market and type of customers in Chong Qing, China. Of course the designer was required to work closely with the marketing team of the client, so that we came up some optional interior styles and layouts for the client's approval. CHALLENGE: Client gave designer the box size was 9m depth, 4m width and 5m height. In oder to make use of the apartment, mezzanine floor was proposed. Designer tried many stair locations to fit the room size and maximize the use of space. Finally L-shaped stair was applied, so that the workshop has the perfect void location with the display stands on first floor, two office areas were located at two ends of the mezzanine floor.
