| DESIGN NAME: Mini Hatter PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bifunctional Built-in Lamp INSPIRATION: An one eye little monster hidden in the hat peeps its wily vision out... Mini Hatter is a bifunctional built-in lamp, sized 2-inch recessed downlight; it features a top hat contour with one intuitional pullable lamp which can fulfill different tasks- push in as a 30 deg. downlight with high cut-off angle; pull out as a flexibly adjustable spotlight which can swing 90 deg. upside down and 355 deg. rotatable. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mini Hatter is available in various beam angles, satisfied residential, business and museum display lighting needs. Combined its supreme color rendering LED, subtle light shape and anti-glare accessories, Mini Hatter is able to storytelling the history by lighting up the texture of relics with pleasant visual comfort for audiences. In 2015, this product series was largely applied in cabinets of National Palace Museum in Taiwan. Mini Hatter is a smart and creative display lighting solution. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Mini Hatter (RA-501R) is a built-in lamp which can be used both as a downlight and as a spotlight. Its operation is intuitive: when pulled out of the recess, it can swing 90 degrees up and down, and rotate 355 degrees. The lamp is available with different beam angles and suitable for a focused illumination in retail, museums and private spaces. The LED achieves a particularly good color rendering and supports a pleasant visual comfort. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2011 in Taipei as Micro Track System for commercial accent lighting, won iF and Red Dot Design Award in 2012; then redefined its usage as museum display lighting in 2015, won Red Dot Design Award 2016- one of this year’s best of the industry, exhibiting in Red Dot Design Museum Essen; won Taiwan Excellence Award in Jan. 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: RA-501R was initially produced in aluminum for a better LED source heat dissipation, then concerns of temperature might cause harm to the delicate relics or some display objects, we changed it into plastic injection. The height of the "hat" also had been shortened to satisfy museum cabinet's need. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Name: Mini Hatter / Model: RA-501R / Dimension: D60 x H61 mm / Recessed / Cut-out: D50 mm / Input: 100-240 VAC / Watt: 1.2W, 3W / LED Color: warm white, natural white, cold white / Beam angle: 8, 12, 24, 36 deg. / Lamp color: black / Weight: 63g TAGS: downlight, spotlight, accent lighting, display, museum, recessed, hatter RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Trials from 3D modeling to prototypes, used DIALux software to simulate light distribution, then built up real scaled museum room and display cabinets to light up various textures (metal, porcelain, silk, bone, bamboo etc.) of relic mocks to refine the design to get the most subtle light effect. Strictly selected 2-step LED chip light source to protect delicate relics.
