DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Fragile

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Flower vase

INSPIRATION:
Some time I saw that some people use a empty bottle as a flower vase at cafe. I think that the bottle shape make sense for flower vase. Because the glass bottle can contain water, and mouth of bottle support a long flower.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This flower vase name is Fragile. Fragile is an attachment that converts a drinking glass into flower case. Basically fragile materials usually are not suited for products, However I feel that they have a beauty which other materials do not. This flower vase evokes this kind of beauty.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Attach the net part on the drinking glass.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This product was exhibited and sold at de bijenkorf, and exhibited at Dutch Design Week 2014.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Fine Arts and Art Installation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
When the net fabric is heated,It becomes hard. This discovery allowed me to create 3D form. The making process consists of three steps. First I cut the material. Then I wrap it around the mold. Finaly, I heat it with a hot air gun to seal the shape.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The size is depend on the glass, but basically 75×75×250(mm).

TAGS:
Flower vase, Heat, Net material, Fragile

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
At that time,I have interest on 3D printer. So I did research on 3D printer, I knew that there are a lot of 3D printing methods. I noticed that some 3D printers have a poit in common. The point in common is to use heat. The source of heat is different. Some 3D printer use laser, other 3D printer use heater. So I got key word for this project. That is “Heat”.

CHALLENGE:
The most difficult point is to know a temperature of heat gun. because If the temperature is low, the net fabric couldn't keep the shape, But If the temperature is too high, the net material is melted.
