DESIGN NAME: In The Holder
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Object
INSPIRATION: Complex patterns of surrounding us things and objects are organized with internal invisible simple elements. The inspiration was to reveal this inner structure. The author's intention - searching for the module united both of purity and boundless creativity of simple form.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The composition embodies an image of unity, implemented through the balance and equipoise of elements. Massive glass modules disposed in this design are placed in space at a critical angle for the weight and material. But the tension energy of the construction doesn't destroy it. The exact coordination and structural configuration of interdependent elements (jointing locks) make the system light and self-supporting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The work was designed to be an associative image. In the Russian language, its name has many synonyms that apply to completely different kinds of visual and functional things. But each of them has the universal "inside information" - a combination of some simple elements into a united whole, more complete and useful. So, everyone is offered to search for some imagination for catching and interpreting the author's idea to become participants in a creative process as a concept co-creators.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Glass modules ("nails") were made at the II International Symposium "Art Glass", Gus-Khrustal'nyy/Russia. Further work (the project, fused glass details and wood) was designed at the Alexander Feryaev Studio. This design was exhibited at the yearly International art show "Glass and Ceramics in the landscape" in the Yelagin island Park, St. Petersburg/Russia and at the Triennial of Art Glass in the All-Russian Decorative Art Museum, Moscow/Russia. Now it is the museum property.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This work mechanically illustrates the composition laws. After exception one of the elements all the structure falls apart not only visually but practically. Author meant to create some case of "compositional core" for his students to illustrate the theory of full integrity in a straight-composed object. There is no unnecessary detail, and all that is, is set precisely in the right place for getting the whole picture.
CHALLENGE: The difficulties here were mostly in choosing the convenient method to work the wood for it emphasized the glass. And another question was about the construction of connecting details for making smooth glass-to-glass nodes. When these answers were found other works went just fine and quick.
