| DESIGN NAME: Moose PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Cabinet INSPIRATION: The inspiration was to add fun to the boring mundane lifestyles and objects around you. The Moose Cabinet is a handcrafted statement piece inspired by the animal, Moose and is designed to be FUNctional piece - FUN yet highly functional. Also in today’s times, with people’s lifestyles becoming more demanding & people looking at efficient uses of living spaces there is a need to have multifunctionality in the new products we are designing. So Plug and play accessories were added for the users. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Moose Cabinet is a handcrafted statement piece inspired by a Moose and is designed to be FUNctional piece (FUN & Functional). The intriguing feature are the plug & play accessories. Antlers for your keys-hats-scarves; Bowl for your accessories; Open & closed shelves for what you want to display & store; mirrors to check your smile. It has push-to-open shutters; Moose’s eye acts as a knob for the shutter & has beautiful green stained internals which astonishes everyone as no-one expects it OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Moose Cabinet is super FUNctional - Fun & highly functional. The intriguing feature of Moose is the easy to use, plug-and-play accessories that the user can choose to use as per their needs/desires. Antlers for your keys, caps, hats, or scarves; Bowl for your accessories and knick-knacks; Open and closed shelves for whatever you want to show/display and hide/store; mirrors to check your smile/face. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project Started in July 2022 & Finished in November 2022 and was exhibited at Raw Collaborative( Baroda, India) in December 2022 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Moose Cabinet is handmade by carpenters in a factory using Oak wood. The accessories were made by joining wood parts to turned metal rods. Finisih: Italian Water Based Matte Finish SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W:161 x D: 400 x H: 1085 TAGS: Multifunctional furniture, Storage furniture, Cabinet, Sideboard, Wood Furniture, Luxury Furniture, Statement furniture, Artsy Furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The online and offline research study was done on furniture marketplaces and markets/physical stores to understand if there are any multi-functional cabinets in the market. Visual data was collected via websites and by taking pictures of products in retail stores and homes (personal network). One of the insights was that the space above a cabinet usually isn’t utilized and a lot of daily knick-knacks, books, etc are just kept on the top surfaces of storage cabinets which eventually gets cluttered/messy. That was the starting point to add plug-and-play accessories to the moose cabinet which the user can use as per their needs. CHALLENGE: The Creative challenge was to not only break away from the stereotypical form/shape of boxy storage cabinets but also to make the cabinet highly functional. The trial and error of steam bending the Oak wood was the hardest and most challenging part, which wasn’t very successful in the first piece, but we are working on it to make it successful.
