| DESIGN NAME: Good Luck PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chinese Stationery INSPIRATION: The inspiration comes from traditional Chinese calligraphy art and Suzhou canal scenery. After visiting Wumen Wangting Scenic Spot with strong literati flavor, I combined 10 scenic spots and 10 stationery pieces of Chinese calligraphy to create this set of tourism cultural creation, hoping to better spread Chinese traditional culture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The first two characters of "Grand Canal" in Chinese mean "lucky". According to the "Ten Views of Canals" in Suzhou, China, this work is designed as the abstract "Four Treasures of the Study". The 10 calligraphy stationery and the 10 landscapes and buildings on the canals are corresponded one by one, so that the canal landscape with strong literati flavor is integrated into the calligraphy tools, and the product with both abstract aesthetic feeling and recognition is designed. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Ten pieces of stationery in this work are indispensable tools for Chinese calligraphy, including ink stone, weight, ink strip, seal, etc. Each stationery corresponds to one of the ten scenic spots of Wumen Wangting Canal. If you send it as a tourist souvenir to your friends, you can show the beautiful scenery of West Lake and strong traditional Chinese culture. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in September 2021 in Shenyang, China, and ended in December 2021, and will be exhibited in Suzhou, China, in October 2022. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wood carving and stone carving are mainly used. In addition, resin can be used to make the top of the pen holder to reduce the weight and prevent the center of gravity from being unstable. The ink strip products are made of calligraphy ink. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The overall package size is 460mm* 300mm* 70mm, with different stationery sizes. During the research, the author visited these scenic spots and made design with reference to architectural features. Meanwhile, similar products were referenced through the Internet and tourists' preferences and calligraphers' usage habits were investigated. The finished product is made of wood, stone and resin. By Jiaxin Zou and Bowen Liu under the guidance of teachers Lu Zhao, Jian Zhang and Lin Huang. Works with a strong literati atmosphere, a good spread of Chinese calligraphy culture, won the recognition of the scenic area and invited to participate in the exhibition. CHALLENGE: The difficulty of this creation lies in how to combine the ten landscapes of Wangting with calligraphy pen and ink tools, the connection of wood and stone in the production, to avoid the unstable center of gravity, and the need to consider the comfort and convenience of the calligrapher in the process of use.
