Interview with Teli Proto at Thursday 14th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
TP: To create packaging that was simple and effective in displaying the clothes and shoes they contain.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
TP: To make the experience of receiving a gift or product for a newborn child a very special celebration.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
TP: We plan to export the designs internationally.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
TP: Over a three mont period.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
TP: Designed for Tic Tac Toe.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
TP: Being used by Tic Tac Toe.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
TP: No

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
TP: Anyone looking for a gift for a newborn baby.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
TP: The endearing animal scene die cut into the packaging, and the double sidedness of the packs.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
TP: Rhinoceros for 3D, Adobe Illustrator for 2D, Origami

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
TP: Single card folded to double sided packaging.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
TP: Karin Muller

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
TP: Technology plays a minimal role.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
TP: Extensive research was conducted by Tic Tac Toe with its customers to determine the needs of the target market.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
TP: The reversible shoes needed to be displayed front and back which meant the packaging had to be truly three dimensional (there is no traditional front or back), yet still retain the family appearance of the clothing pack.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
TP: Through Design Indaba advert

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
TP: To simplify everything as much as possible.
