Interview with Nikita Zhilyakov Workspace at Friday 13th of May 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
NZ: The building itselve was an inspiration: old constuctions, brick walls, dirty windows... The main principle was to save the spirit of a place not disturbing the atmosphere, but at the same time this space had to be comfortable and safe for visitors and had to have newest equipment.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
NZ: Few month

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
NZ: Neither

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
NZ: History of the building

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
NZ: This is a name of all building. Dom pechati means printing warehouse.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
NZ: We used new technologies in a lot of things: ventilation, heating systems, spetial covering that save old brick walls, metal construcions to reinforce old ones, metal constructions above the stage and hangins of the lights etc.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
NZ: No

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
NZ: I wanted to do that and suddenly I recieved an invitation

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
