Interview with Taras Zheltyshev at Monday 14th of April 2014

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
TZ: The design main principle is the keeping an outlook of the dog, we mean that we were inspired by a German mastiff from Sherlock Holmes movie.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
TZ: We were focused on keeping the shape of the lamp, versatality, general simplicity and prettiness.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
TZ: We were always have been taught not to eat the calf in the cow's belly.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
TZ: It took us just a week to design this particular concept.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
TZ: We were always interested and charmed in light, lightning equipment and interiour decoration connected with something bright, airy and the things that provide warmth and coziness.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
TZ: If there is a good possibility to share our ideas and design with people, of course there is a way to sell or lease the production rights. We are always glad to have futher business relationships with our partners and clients.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
TZ: It's the implementation of my ideas, deep thoughts about calmness, friendliness and home compford that modern person lacks nowadays.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
TZ: As for the modern trends there were no designers or design that has greatly influenced me, except my mother's advices and recommendations.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
TZ: Any modern person who wants to come home, turn on the light instead of coldness and swiftness of the world and meet the home warmth and comfort.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
TZ: The uniqueness of M.T.F. ( My True Friend) lamp in the form of a dog is that, firstly it can fit almost any decor, from the cheerful, warm children's room and ending with cold official working office. Secondly, it has a unique combination of materials - wood, plastic, metal, glass that creates a fusion style. The third unique characteristic is that, not all lamps can have a pivot arm with 360 degrees and free tilt from any angle. Also, our lamp provides possibility of rigid fixation with the comfortable ergonomic locks.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
TZ: It was very simple, as the lamp is in a shape of a dog, the dog is a human's friend so the name of our concept is quite clear M.T.F. ( My True Friend)

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
TZ: On the firs stage we used the basic ones - Sheets of paper, pencil, water colours, aquarel pencils, etc. then on the second stage 3DsMAX and Photoshop.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
TZ: It' s really a hard question for an artist who painted a masterpiece.......Tell us what square cm. of your work is the best?

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
TZ: None. As i have a large experince with the materials our lamp consists of, so there is no need to consult with any technical specialists.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
TZ: The technology plays great role in the implementation of our design.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
TZ: We wanted to embody the essence of the old, more durable, some kind “iron” world, where people were more kind and simpler, and things were inherited for generations with the modern fast-paced world where modern technology combines space and time, it speeds up the life of modern person and sometimes he or she just want to come home, turn on the light instead of coldness and swiftness of the world and meet the home warmth and comfort. As if there is a faithful dog waiting for its master, and the life is slow and relaxed.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
TZ: The difficulty was in maintaining a single composition shape of the lamp.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
TZ: Why not? I'm sure that any designer would be pleased to take part in this international design competition. It's a good chance to prove your abilities and find new opportunities.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
TZ: I've improved my understanding of the materials harmony and their compatibility.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
TZ: No thank you a lot! If you have any additional questions we are always ready to answer them.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
