FAQ Entry #284

Home > Support > Frequently Asked Questions > 284

This is a respond to a previously asked question about the A' Design Award and Competition. The full list of frequently asked questions can be accessed here.

#284: I checked previous and recent press appearances and I think you as an organization are doing well in spreading the news of the award and the competitions and some entries, that is all well , but in most press appearances I found only one instance where one of my projects was featured and there was no mention in any venue to my other awards (at least till now) and it is quite surprising that there are entries that show up in almost every press appearance. Part of why I entered A design award and I am sure all designers are seeking the same target is international media exposure and recognition of their work , and unfortunately I want to get more of that. Tell me what you will do about it?

Here is how our dissemination system works at the initial stages of the competition: 1. We send communications to tens of thousands of press members about results announcement and ask them to check the results and we kindly ask them to feature our winners, these press members are independent and will feature only works that are relevant to their audience and that they truly like. 2. Furthermore we sponsor posts at only the best and most relevant design publications and for that reason we spend a significant amount of resources (could be financial sponsorship, personal connections, partnership agreements and more), again even though these posts are sponsored, we never impose who to feature for two reasons: A) By not imposing who to feature, the editors picks the most relevant designs that relate to their audience, thus articles become better, more organic and shared more; they become more valuable. B) We respect the editors and the designs; imposing particular winners or projects would be unfair. 3. Furthermore we provide tools and resources for winners to disseminate their results themselves; that includes press releases, additional graphics and symbols made available which could be used in marketing and communications. 4. We pay for premium press release distribution from multiple networks to reach over half a million editors, in hope to have them check your works and eventually feature them. 5. We translate our press release to over 30 languages, and communicate it in many countries for additional local publications. 6. We reach traditional media publications, and also pitch them about our winners. 7. We got your news spread online, to ensure when your name is searched, it comes out as an award-winning designer. 8. We translate project descriptions to many other languages so that foreign prospects and press members could find your info when they search in their own native language. 9. We also actively advertise winners page through ads placement in networks to attract potential press members to view them. 10. The first 9 steps I wrote is only the tip of the iceberg, the communication is always ongoing, we keep pitching even those who won several years ago, so you might not have a feature right now at this moment, but we will help you to have one, by doing our best and not giving-up, but of course it must also be clear that any media feature must also relate to appealing to the tastes and needs of editors which we cannot control; what we do is to reach all and every editor such that at least some editors would share your views, perspective of art and taste for design thus they could feature you. That being said, we cannot force editors to feature your works, but we will keep pitching them. We want always more and more exposure for our winners, and we will do anything in our power to get you featured. To remind you once again, press appearances takes a long time to happen, it does not happen overnight; online press requires normally two-weeks for a good article, and for traditional press it takes about two-months, furthermore for international press, we need an additional month for initial press release translation, so it could take at least three months before international press appearances could start happening.
