| DESIGN NAME: Dutz - Jungle Collection PRIMARY FUNCTION: Glass Vase INSPIRATION: The premise of the glass vase collection is to create objects that gain their value from the quality and design. The origin of the creative process extends to a moment when a wave rolled upon the shore. The sound was soft yet intense. These contrasts in nature and the way they create harmony is desired to be captured in the Jungle collection: The serenity and wildness of the water and trees. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Jungle collection combines 3D-design with old glass blowing techniques. The collection has 3 shapes that are based in the Scandinavian traditions: tall, oval and wide. Simple shapes reflect the serenity of the medium, while being weightless and strong at the same time. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Each piece has a unique color play inside the glass. Sometimes, a very simple object can be multi-dimensional when using glass as a medium. For example, there is the visual layer of glass: how does the glass reflect, and how will the colors look in different lighting. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: One year project starting in fall 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Mouth blown glass, metal oxides, glass colors & 3D designed shapes. When glass is blown it is 1000 decrees celcius hot and alive until it is frozen into it's final shape. Each shape has organic motion that comes from the movement of the material. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Tall vase: 25 cm x 15 cm. Oval vase 15 cm x 17 cm. Wide vase 21 cm x 18 cm. Signed and numbered. TAGS: Glass, vase, 3D-design, blown glass, jungle, collectible design, finnish design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Combining 3D design with old glass blowing techniques has always been my ambition. It is a way to find new ways to reflect the medium. The jungle collection is a combination of traditional Scandinavian shapes, 3D designed lines and colors and old know how of glassmaking. CHALLENGE: How to create an interior design object that has it's own persona and soul - yet as a collection of uniform shapes that work as individuals and also as a group. My challenge has also been to create a illusion of lightness by using extremely heavy and thick glass. NAME: Sini Majuri PROFILE: Sini Majuri is a glass artist from Finland. She combines 3D-design with old glass blowing techniques. Sini Majuri Glass Design creates interior design objects, custom made light sculptures for modern interiors, mountainous glass landscapes and contemporary narratives on glass. In 2018 glass vase collection Jungle was launched by DutZ Collection and exhibited in design fairs around Europe and in Hong Kong. The reason why Majuri is working with glass is because it’s a rare and magical medium. It reflects the world around it, bends light and has interesting optic properties. Hot glass is alive until it is frozen into it’s final shape. In a way it is like a wild animal that you need to tame. The sense of magic that it has makes it a perfect medium for creating design with a soul. |
