| DESIGN NAME: Mulian PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sofa INSPIRATION: A plethora of appealing designs and forms pass our looks throughout our daily lives as to our geographical locations, however, in the eyes of an industrial designer, each of them is a rich source of inspiration. Due to the vast climatic diversity and grand history of Iranians, we possess a rich background in these resources, one of which is the original Iranian instrument, such as Oud, Qishak, Tar, Tanbur, Tonbak, etc. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This 7m wide sofa has been designed for premium rooms and lobbies in luxurious hotels. The source of inspiration for this design has been the original Iranian musical instruments and so the dramatic story of the famous poetry which reads; It smells like the Moulian river It reminds me of the kindest lover And illustrates the return of a king to his homeland and his origin beautifully. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This sofa has a built-in audio system which allows you to listen to Persian traditional instrumental songs using a dedicated mobile app for two minutes to be entertained while waiting and have a better experience in regards with Persian culture and design. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This product, due to the organic form of the body and the middle form, can be made through a foam injection method to a metal casing. The sitting spot of this sofa is cut by a sponge-layer of polyurethane or the hot foam, and so cut out and coated with the body. The middle form, which can be covered with metal and wood, is to be executed by the professors of Iranian mosaic in the texturizing piece of Nastaliq's poetry Mulian. The treatment can be made of leather or fabric. TAGS: furniture, sofa, Mulian, persian, Lobby, hotel, leather, mosaic, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First of all, we started to design a set of furniture being inspired by Persian music instruments as can be seen in our sketches. In our research process, we have faced one dramatic story about one of the famous Persian poems, which means you should always return to your originality, because of that you will be unique. Then we started to merge this influential story with shape of Persian music instruments. And about the location, we have found the best place in the lobby of hotels. The people all around the world who are away from their home and the poem says that: It smells like the Mulian river It reminds me of the kindest lover To represent this poem in the design of the sofa we decided to choose a form of a mixture of calligraphy called: Shekasteh Nastaliq (a form of broken writing in Persian calligraphy), this idea helps us in texturing and making our sofa more beautiful and more understandable by all nations. and if they are curious about the story of texture or this design, they could find that within a mobile app named Moulian. And this poem should be engraved or mosaiced by handwork of the Persian artist. NAME: DUMARA PROFILE: The CEO of Dumara Inc., Hamid Packseresht, is a dropout student of Coventry University in the United Kingdom. He completed his BA in Industrial Design in Tehran, at Azad University. In his life, he has been driven by a purpose of founding a personal design studio. Due to the fact that having related theoretical and practical backgrounds in both areas is a necessity to manage a company under that scale while receiving education in the field of Industrial Design throughout his undergraduate, he exerted himself to broaden his knowledge in the field of Graphics as well. In this regard, with this course of 4 years, his intuitions paved the path for him to learn the fundamental concepts of graphic design both practically and theoretically receiving no academic instruction. The practical and theoretical aspects of Graphic and Industrial Design were his main focus of studies. His career debut reflected a great sense of perseverance when he was appointed as the chief designer at icepack co. On a winning streak, he gradually won a number of titles in various local competitions. This earned him a reputation which accelerated his promotion to higher positions e.g. chief design officer in many famous companies in Iran. Following this, he decided to go through a new challenge of founding a self-stand Company under the Brand name Dumara. This was a turning point for him and his other coworkers. The term "Phenomenal" is the English Equivalent for Dumara in Avestan Language. Since its founding in Tehran in 2012, Dumara Company, Inc. has had a leading role in a wide range of projects in terms of design including industrial, graphics, and architectural. Dumara studio has taken a professional team of designers into employment, being capable of handling a majority of design fields. |
