DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
The Rebel

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Mirror

INSPIRATION:
The Rebel is about finding the strength in your own reflection. Courageous enough to walk alone, but assertive enough to have found the right path. It's about knowing yourself, choosing your revolution, finding momentum and knowing when it's time to walk away.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The rebel is a mirror and art piece reflecting on your rebellious self. Your everyday reflection strengthens with each encounter. The copper frame, circular in shape holds a copper tinted mirror that intends to give a warm reflection to the self. Decorated with arabesque patterns, the lines forms tattoos that speak of your courageous path.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The Rebel in pink copper tone in both steel frame and glass mirror gives a subtle image with only the arabesque design to stick out and tell the story. The trace will either remind you of something in your own reflection or make you imagine the artist's journey. The pink tint is meant to give a kinder, less harsh image of yourself. The rebel comes in different tints and patterns to give different mood, making a dynamic interaction with the self and its surrounding.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The Rebel is a collection started in 2014 for Les Galeries Lafayette in Dubai. The Pink Arabesque was prepared for the Solo Exhibition this year at La Serre Dubai January 26 to May 25, 2016.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The original Rebel was initially a design sunblasted on the glass mirror, limiting the result to a thicker, less refined design and limited use of color, as well as feeling the pattern when touching the surface. Tracing the line from behind made the finished result overcome all those obstacles.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Circular Copper frame protected with lacquer finishing. Copper tinted mirror. Dark brown painted mirror carving within.900mm in diameter, 20mm deep, 2mm thickness of material. 7kg. Reusable material, the copper back circular 800mm is cut out to create another frame of 740mm, and so forth.A vinyl sticker on back of the mirror with same tattoo design is aimed to provide a complete finishing.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Finding a translation in art for this rebellious journey between Scandinavia and the Middle East, brought forth a copper steel frame that symbolises the roots. Sweden had the biggest copper mines in Europe and Lebanon also known for its copper handicrafts.but the problem is the weight. Cutting out the steel copper from the back gave a lighter weight and the reuse of the remaining material.

CHALLENGE:
Purposeful creations through daring reflections in its lightness of being. The first Rebel design involved sun blasting on the mirror surface. The challenge was to refine the technique by involving the tattoo within the mirror so the pattern leaves no marks on the surface. The carving of the design from behind the mirror and placing paint on the lines produced that neat pattern with no traces.
