| DESIGN NAME: Talismanic Shirts PRIMARY FUNCTION: Necklace INSPIRATION: The inspiration of this necklace is the Talismanic Shirts used by Ottoman Sultans to heal and protect themselves. The shirts are exhibited in Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul. The form refers to the collar of the shirts and the used ruby and diamonds refer to the sacred numbers, letters and symbols on the shirts. Here is the story:It all started with a miniaturist decorating the charmed shirt at the propitious moment of Sunday night March 30, 1477, determined by a court astrologer UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This necklace prepared with the modern interpretation of motives and charms that were carefully decorated on shirts, gems and spears to protect and heal the Ottoman Sultans; in the ruby colour of power and might, and with the symbol of eternity. It is made of 14K gold, diamonds and ruby and also it has been used red silk fabric between two glasses in the centre of the necklace which refers to the original shirts. It is hundred percent handmade and it manufactured by craftsman in Grand Bazaar. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2014 in Istanbul and finished in February 2016 in Istanbul and exhibited in Istanbul February 11th 2016 in Istanbul. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hand made by craftsman with traditional process. 14K Gold, 0.08Ct Diamonds, 0.01Ct ruby SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Main part of necklace dimensions are W :420mm H :900mm D:30mm Chain lenght :80cm. Weight :26,04gr. NAME: House of DIV PROFILE: Gulsah Surel Erdem is an Architect, lover of the sea, the nature and the history, a woman and a mother. She loves modern and historic details, geometric forms and their meanings they brouht to our lives. She explains why she became a designer after 20 years architecture life with the followings words of “ I love to produce something since I was knee-high to a grasshoper. I started to design by painting sea shelves with my grand mothers’ nail polish. House of DIV was born by gathering the vision and the skill that I had from the love of human, nature and history of Anatolian land and from my architectural history. The designer enjoys to involve all the process; from the scratch to modeling, from the production to the presentation. |
