| DESIGN NAME: CPH ST-1 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Watch INSPIRATION: The inspiration derives from a life-long passion for, and fascination with, mechanical watches, in particular over-sized and masculine watches, and an influence from Scandinavian minimalistic design in general. With a diameter of 45 mm, the watch is over-sized, yet the design is simplistic, so it is possible for most men to wear it, even if they are not used to wearing a large watch. The watch is made of steel, deliberately to bring out the masculine and simplistic design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A men's watch in a unique and over-sized design. The watch case and parts are made from stainless steel, and combined with an elegant calf leather strap. Sapphire glass on both the front and back makes it not only resistant, but also reveals the real heart of the watch, the Swiss automatic movement. A unique design feature of the watch is the inner bezel, with its linear engravings, adding depth and character to the overall look. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The watch is easy to take on and off, due to the 'butterfly' PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2013 and the first prototype was shown during Copenhagen Fashion Week of the same year. The final prototype, which is shown in this competition, was formally finished in November 2014, after several revisions. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The watch consists of several parts, manufactured according to our unique design and instructions. Each watch is thereafter assembled by hand and tested to ensure the highest quality. The automatic self-winding movement is produced by one the top Swiss manufacturers of movements. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Diameter of the watch case is 45 mm, with a 22 mm leather strap. The height of the watch case is 10,6 mm. Swiss automatic movement (self-winding and using motion; the watch does not need a battery to function) The watch is available in 2 editions, the black edition (black dial with black strap) and the white edition (white dial with light-brown strap) TAGS: watch, mens watches, luxury watches, swiss made movements, timepieces RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design research derives from a deep fascination with watches and a lifetime of influence from minimalistic Scandinavian design. CHALLENGE: The focal point and objective during the design process of the watch, was to create a watch in a unique design, with individual characteristics not seen in other watches.
