DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
xifix-one

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Chair, Stacking Chair

INSPIRATION:
My home town which has a pyramid and a fan as the emblem.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The design is based on the required minimum of physics and material, multiple use, indoor-outdoor, Corner Chair, Stacking Chair, round-soft, Feng Shui. The weight bearing construction consists of a single, endless pipe. The actual seat is fixated at two axial points and laying on top of a third point of the construction, without being fixated. The axial fixated points at the frame allow the seat to fold back and the chairs can be stacked into each other, hence the name Stacking Chair.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Since the seat can be easily removed, different material, upholstery, shape, color and design can be exchanged effortlessly. This construction provides inexpensive, individual seating and its non-corrosive materials gives flexibility to be used outdoors or in any particular climate.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The idea of the project started in December 2009 in Karlsruhe, Germany. The development of the first prototype finished in December 2011. The project is still in progress - addition armrest system and different materials.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:

CHALLENGE:
To develop and design a chair means to assert oneself in the highest level of design. I was pursuing an inspiration. Principle: To design a chair according to the philosophy of the Bauhaus - to use soft and fluent forms in accordance with Feng Shui - to integrate functions - - - Stacking chair - nesting as group chair or bench - corner chair. Idea: To develop a chair rack, consisting of one piece including the back rest. Inspiration: To find a form as a tribute to my hometown which has a pyramid and a fan as an emblem - - - Chair rack as a pyramid - seat and back rest as a fan. Focus : Few components - simple dismantling and exchange of the components without the use of tools - variable exchange of seat and back rest for a use indoors and outdoors - changing designs - protection by the parts themselves without screws and nuts - back rest secures seat against falling out. The hardest part - - - to find the minimum of seperate parts and fixing parts. Few components - simple dismantling and exchange of the components without the use of tools - variable exchange of seat and back rest for a use indoors and outdoors - changing designs - protection by the parts themselves without screws and nuts - back rest secures seat against falling out. To reduce the technology to a minimum. The chair had to work with this particular form.
